Geography of Bhopal

The city located on the northwestern segment of the state is central most province of the country and shares its boundary with two beautiful lakes. 

The two lakes encompassing the city are considered as the Upper and the Lower Lakes. The Bhopal city is divided into two parts - the old and the new city. The Old Bhopal is located in the northern fraction of the city, while the southern partition is entitled as the New Bhopal.

The Betwa River that flows from the mountain of North India and stroll all the way through the plains to penetrate into the state of Madhya Pradesh. A stream of the Yamuna waterway, the flowing together of the Betwa and the Yamuna Rivers merge in a place called Orchha.

Believed to constructed by Raja Bhoja of Parmara dynasty Upper Lake is famous for its charismatic beauty and abundance of flora and fauna. Also known as Bada talab and Bhojtal it a famous hangout spot in the city. Spread over an area of about 6 square kilometers, the Upper Lake is alienated from the Lower Lake by an over suspension bridge. Known for its exquisite beauty and aloofness, Upper Lake Bhopal is one of the finest pass time spot in the city.

Lower Lake in Bhopal

The lake which is about two centuries old was constructed by Chote Khan, a minister in the empire of Nawab Hayat Muhammad Khan Bahadur in the year 1794. Including the Upper Lake, it figures the Bhoj Wetland.It has been built in accordance with the upper lake to its eastern side. The water levels of these lakes are managed in terrace structure and a seepage connection is made between the two. The lake acts as an Eco-cultural center . Known for its exquisite beauty and aloofness, Lower Lake Bhopal is one of the finest pass time spot in the city.

Climate of Bhopal

Bhopal has a moist subtropical climate, with cool, dry winters, a hot summer and a humid monsoon season. Summers begin in late March and go on till mid-June, the regular temperature being around 30 °C (86 °F), which hit the highest point of summer in May, when the utmost temperature constantly exceeding 40 °C (104 °F). The downpour begins in late June and ends in late September. 

These months notice about 40 inches (1020 mm) of precipitation, recurrent thunderstorms and flooding. The average temperature is around 25 °C (77 °F) and the moisture is quite high. Temperatures increase again up to late October when winter starts, which lasts up to early March. 

Winters in Bhopal are chilly, bright and contented, with average daily temperatures around 16 °C (61°F) and little or no rain. The winter peaks in January when temperatures may plunge close to freezing on several nights. Lowest temperature ever recorded was 0.3C. Total annual rainfall is about 1146 mm (46 inches)
