The Judicial functions and responsibilities in Bhopal is ably performed by various courts. These courts form integral part of judicial system and dispensing justice is their main role. The District Court in Bhopal is established by the State government taking into account the number of cases, population distribution in the district. District Court at Bhopal dispense justice at district level. The court comes under administrative control of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh. The decisions of District Court can be challenged at High Court. State Government has a say in the appointment of District Judge. In addition to the District Judge the Government of Madhya Pradesh has appointed may many Additional District Judges and Assistant District Judges for the speedy clearances of the pending files. Although the Additional District judge has equivalent jurisdiction as the District Judge, the district judge still has superiority and supervisory control over Additional and Assistant District Judges.
To become a District Judge one needs to have a minimum of seven years of practicing experience as a lawyer. The judges are usually appointed by the Governor with the consultation of the Chief Justice of the High Court of the concerned State.

The main role of Consumer Court in Bhopal is to protect the rights of the consumer. It deals with consumer disputes and grievances. These courts were set up by the government in order to protect the consumer’s rights. The main aim and reason for the establishment of this court was to ensure ethical practices followed by the sellers towards their consumers. The role of consumer court comes in play when any consumer files a case against a seller who is harassing or exploiting him. The court will only give a verdict in favor of the consumer if they have reasonable proof of the harassment or exploitation otherwise without proof, it would make it very difficult for the consumer to win the case. If a consumer wants to submit a complaint then it’s a very easy and simple method and there’s no need for a lawyer. The consumer requires a bill or any proof of purchase documents to file a case. This is a very simple process and extremely cheap as a consumer can represent themselves without the need to hire a lawyer and would just have to pay a nominal fee.
