Jama Masjid of Bhopal

Jama Masjid is a fine-looking mosque constructed by Qudisiya Begum in 1837. The most renowned feature of this fresh-looking monument is the two imposing minarets that are evidently visible to bare eyes even from a long distance. Reflecting the adroitness of Islamic culture, interiors of this mosque are incredible.
Inside the mosque are three spherical cupolas along with a chain of alabaster-white columned arch and a marble interior chamber. Diverse units of Bharat Bhavan comprise Roopankar (museum of fine arts), Rangmandal (a repertory), Antrang (an indoor theatre), Bahirang (an outdoor theatre), Vagarth (a center of Indian poetry), Anhad (a library of classical and folk music) and an art gallery within the complex. Taj-ul-Masjid, signifying ‘The Crown of Mosques’, is an ancient mosque that was used as a madrasah. Sultan Shah Jehan Begum of Bhopal (1868-1901) initiated the structure of this mosque. Nevertheless, it was entirely constructed only after 1971 by the immense endeavor of Allama Mohammad Imran Khan Nadwi Azhari of Bhopal.

A special feature in the design of the mosque is a pink frontage topped by two 18-storey octagonal minarets with marble domes. Beneath the three giant spherical domes of the mosque lies a core hall with handsome pillars and marble flooring. In addition the mosque comprises a courtyard with a huge tank in the middle. The two storey doorway with four archways leads to the main prayer hall. Quibla wall inside the prayer hall is ornamented with eleven arch carvings and excellent screens of lattice work.

Moti Masjid in Bhopal
